SPRIND’s Next Frontier AI & Robotics Challenges are Europe’s most ambitious initiatives to build the next generation of frontier technology.
Currently there are three active initiatives. They share the ambition of giving Europe real technological independence:
- Next Frontier AI: ten teams are building through 24 months with €125 million in non-dilutive funding.
- Next Frontier Robotics is now open for applications: backing up to 15 teams with up to €90 million
- Recoding Medicine is now open for applications: backing up to 13 teams with up to €15 million.

We run three challenges at the moment. Next Frontier AI has been under way since July, with ten teams working through 24 months. Next Frontier Robotics and Recoding Medicine are both open for applications until October, one for teams building multi-purpose robots and the hardware they depend on, the other for teams turning Europe's health data into real medical advances. Who we are
Next Frontier AI, Next Frontier Robotics and Recoding Medicine are run by SPRIND, Germany’s Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation. We coordinate a European coalition with a unique mandate: deploy public money to pursue breakthroughs others can’t risk.
